Parents and Students:
Welcome to the 2011-12 school year! I am excited to start a new school year and look forward to another year of student successes. To begin I would like to share some information you may find helpful.
I will be teaching Algebra 1, Algebra 2 and Algebra 2 Honors. The curriculum for these courses was written with the college bound student in mind. The Algebra 2 curriculum also includes emphasis on areas tested on the ACT/PSAE and SAT. The expectations for these advanced math courses may be challenging, but I encourage and expect my students to put forth their best efforts. Often students become frustrated with advanced math classes, not only because of their difficulty, but because they do not see the relevance of what they are learning. Therefore, I remind my students that Algebra is a course designed not only to learn math skills but also to develop the skill of critical thinking.
Please be aware that both the Algebra 2 classes use graphing calculators (TI-83, TI-83 Plus, TI-84, or TI-84 Plus are recommended). The Math Department has a limited number of graphing calculators that are available to rent for $20 per year. If interested, please have your son or daughter talk to me. The Math Department supply list, along with the class syllabus and class rules were handed out the first day of class and are on my web-site.

Be sure to take advantage of POWERSCHOOL to monitor grades throughout the year. If your student needs extra help, I am available on most days before and/or after school. All students are encouraged to stop by when they have questions. I hope that this school year is enjoyable for everyone, and I look forward to hearing from you!
