Welcome to the MCHS website and to the Math Department web page!
My name is Sharon Swihart and I am in my eighth year of teaching at MCHS. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in math at Kansas State University and my Master of Arts in Teaching from Olivet Nazarene University.
I have three grown children, all three of which are MCHS graduates, and am the grandparent to two adorable grandchildren. Our older two children are married, and two of the three are currently pursuing master's degrees. In my spare time you may find me walking my dog, reading, playing games or coaching my Bible Bowl team (like Scholastic Bowl) team at church.
Currently I am teaching Geometry and Advanced Algebra/Trig. I can usually be found in room 126 by 7:30 AM each morning and from 3:05 PM until at least 4:00 PM each afternoon. Students who have questions, need to make-up missed work, or who are struggling are strongly encouraged to come in for extra help during these times. Sometimes a student can be more successful in math if he or she will just take the extra time to get some one-on-one help from the classroom teacher!
You can generally expect that a student in my classes will have homework almost every night. I try to post grades to Power School two to three times per week. In addition, you should see a printed grade sheet to sign every three to four weeks.
