Committees/Discussion Groups
Parents and Teachers,
The following is a brief description concerning committee's and discussion groups that are currently in-place at Morris Community High School. Along with the description of each is an indication of the potential opportunity for stakeholder participation. Please familiarize yourself with these groups, and make the appropriate contacts if you are interested in knowing more or in submitting your name for consideration as a future participant.
Sincerely,
Mr. Kelly J. Hussey
Principal
Rising Star Leadership Team
The RSLT is the primary district level school improvement committee responsible for assessing the overall effectiveness of all aspects of our curricular development, teaching strategies, and student achievement. Through the collection and use of various data sets, this team draws conclusions while using some of the most recent education research available in order to define objectives and tasks designed to advance initiatives toward improvements in curriculum, teacher delivery, and student success. Although guests are welcome, interested persons must first contact Principal Kelly Hussey. Please call the high school main office at (815) 942-1294.
Student Discipline Advisory Committee
In an attempt to involve representation from all of our direct stakeholders, the SDAC invites students, parents, and teachers to participate in discussions concerning all school discipline related topics in order to find ways to best manage the issues that, when left unchecked, sometimes prove damaging to our school's mission. Led by Assistant Principal Jeff Johnson, a meeting schedule is set-up for the calendar year, agenda items are designed with input from survey information and stakeholder suggestions, and final recommendations are designed for consideration by school administration and the current school board. Although we maintain moderate membership numbers, parents, students, and teachers who express interest with Mr. Johnson prior to the start of any new school year, will be contacted to fill available committee positions.

Department Chairpersons Committee
Each departmental area is represented by a Department Chair who requested consideration, and was then selected to serve in this role on behalf of their department. Led by the building principal, this group meets on pre-determined schedule of dates each year to discuss issues, review RSLT objectives, and set goals according to current school improvement goals. In order to accomplish this, they lead their department in the completion of curriculum review cycle requirements, discovery of critical decisions as demonstrated by data on student achievement that originates from local, state, and national assessments, budgetary issues and goals, potential uses of current technology, and more. Although this committee is self-contained and not open to additional members, the principal draws from all sources to bring necessary facts and perceptions to the table.
M Squad Committee
The M Squad is comprised of administrators, counselors, teachers union representation, and at least one additional teacher invited by the current teachers union president. This committees function is two fold; to discuss current minor issues facing our faculty and staff in order to find solutions before an issue become a larger problem, and to work on creating ideas that might ultimately make our system work better. This internal team works directly with the school administration, and as such, critical discussions that may involve outside stakeholders are shared with other committee's by all school administrators.
Parent School Improvement Panel
The PSIP was founded by Principal Kelly Hussey in the 2009-10 school year. From the beginning, it was formed as a method of allowing district #101 parents/guardians to participate in discussions concerning topics they view as important to the policies and procedures that impact the overall success potential of their children. This parent led panel has already defined their own organizational mission, provided the high school with valuable insights and ideas, and helped us create and/or offer a variety of volunteer possibilities. The PSIP is open to all parents, and clearly hope to see parents in attendance in large numbers at their "first Wednesday of the month" 6:30 pm meeting. Interested parents should contact the high school main office at (815) 942-1294 to confirm time and location of these meetings.

Additional Committees/Discussion Groups:
Many additional short term committees are set-up from time-to-time in order to address specific needs or concerns that arise. Although these are typically designed to solicit ideas and solutions from current faculty, staff, and administration, these same topics often become agenda or discussion items on other standing committee meeting agendas. In this way, we are able to reach out and receive a broader spectrum of thoughts. Recent examples of Additional Committees/DIscussion Groups include;
- MCHS Grading Policy Discussion Group
- Possible Changes to Parent-Teacher Conference Format
- Transition to Change Committee
